Most Wanted Professions
According to Robert Walters' 2020 Salary Survey, 44% of professionals in Portugal are actively seeking new job opportunities.
The four reasons that lead professionals to try new opportunities are:
- Improve salary and other benefits
- Progress in career
- Improve work-life balance
- Finding a more attractive business culture
The relative importance of each of these reasons depends on the sector of activity of each professional.
For example, in the Accounting and Finance area, salary has a 55% weight in the decision and career progression counts 18% in this decision.
In Engineering and Operations, the salary is 37% in the decision and the career progression counts 26% in this decision.
In Information Technology professionals, 50% seek a better salary and 27% seek career advancement.
As for Sales and Marketing professionals, 28% look for a better salary, 26% look for career progression, 16% a better balance between family work and 15% give more importance to a change in roles / responsibilities.
In addition to the technical knowledge required for professionals in the business world, foreign language skills, which are necessary for communication in an increasingly global market, are also being targeted.
Still, according to Robert Walters, the most required “soft skills” will be the versatility in communicating with the different stakeholders, critical thinking, creativity and the ability to adapt to change, of which remote work has proved to be an important challenge for most professionals.
It is also noted that, in general, the most relevant factors for maintaining a good level of job satisfaction are: a good balance between work and family life, having feedback and motivation on the part of company leaders and managers, as well as remuneration and competitive benefits.
